Did WWE take the Women’s World Title off of Becky Lynch because she’s not yet signed a contract extension with the company?
Liv Morgan has made the most of her return to WWE, capturing the Women’s Championship from Becky Lynch after an eight-month injury hiatus. Getting the win at King and Queen of the Ring this weekend, Morgan is likely set to face Lynch in a rematch that The Man has demanded on Raw, but it isn’t expected Lynch will win the title if she’s given her shot. In fact, her title loss on Saturday may have been done for the same reason she won’t win the title again anytime soon.
Lynch has reportedly not signed a new contract with WWE and while she’s getting praise for coming back to help transition the championship from Rhea Ripley to Liv Morgan, WWE couldn’t move forward with the title on Lynch while not under contract.
Lynch Couldn’t Hold The Title Without A New Contract
As per a few reports, including one from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, “Whole lotta people on the world wide web told me WWE wouldn’t have the title on Becky with her contract coming up.”
Morgan’s status as a top competitor is now complete, thanks in part to Lynch. Becky put Liv over on the PLE in Saudi and helped elevate Morgan to ensure her title win meant more. She did this, all after an expected break following WrestleMania. But, when Ripley went down to a freak injury, Lynch, known for her resilience and dedication, ended her break early to elevate Morgan’s career and Lynch’s willingness to put Morgan over highlights her role as a cornerstone of WWE’s women’s division, earning the gratitude of fans worldwide. Her selfless act has allowed Morgan to shine, showcasing the strength and depth of the women’s roster.
What’s Next For Lynch?
Lynch’s potential hiatus after Raw adds another layer of intrigue. While she is expected to take a break, it’s unlikely she would leave WWE for another promotion. Lynch has been a top priority for WWE in recent years, and her departure would be a significant shift in the landscape of women’s wrestling. Her ability to draw fans and her consistent performance make her an invaluable asset to the company.
On the MMA Hour back in March, Lynch confirmed to journalist Ariel Helwani that her WWE contract was coming up in June and that she had yet to sign a new deal.
Morgan will get a shot to run with the ball for a while. In the meantime, WWE and Lynch will likely get to work on her contractual status. The hope is that Morgan’s reign as champion signals a new era, promising exciting developments in the months to come. If it doesn’t, Lynch likely has even more leverage being one of the few trusted people who can hold the women’s title and make it mean something.
