Danny Green Being Linked 2 NBA Teams For Potential Return
Danny Green holds a unique place in NBA lore. While he was never a star by any stretch of the imagination, he did play a pretty integral role in three separate teams winning a championship.
Over the course of his stints with the San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Lakers Green proved himself to be a valuable veteran presence and at-times reliable three-point shooting threat.
Injuries robbed Green of the last few years of his career, but some believe he may have a little left in the tank.
During a recent session with reporters, Green expressed an openness to returning to the NBA.
“I would love to come back if I had the opportunity,” he told Valley Central.
“I have not officially retired. There’s free agency going on right now, and my phone lines are open.”
If Green does opt for a comeback, two teams are the biggest frontrunners for his services. The first is his old team – the Lakers.
Obviously Los Angeles has been linked to a reunion with Green for a while now. They need a three-point shooter and veteran who can stretch defenses a bit. In theory, when he is on, Green fits the bill. For his career, he has shot 40 percent from beyond the arc.
L.A. is currently in the midst of exploring a blockbuster trade, but if it falls apart, this could make for a solid Plan B.
If not the Lakers, the Miami Heat could make a lot of sense for Green as well. Erik Spoelstra and Co. have shown a knack for maximizing the potential of veterans like Kevin Love who seemed all but done in their prior situations.
It goes without saying that Green has only played in 13 games since suffering a torn ACL and LCL in April of 2022, but if he is healthy now, he could be a low-risk option for someone.
Will Green find a way to return to the NBA? Time will tell.
