Whoopi Goldberg and Alyssa Farah Griffin didn’t exactly agree with each other on this morning’s episode of The View, where they butted heads over President Joe Biden‘s ability (or lack thereof) to serve a second term in the White House.
While Goldberg declared her support for Biden until he “can’t do the job” anymore, Griffin speculated that that time could be coming sooner rather than later following his disastrous debate performance.
“I don’t think we’re just risking the White House to Donald Trump. I think you are risking a sweep in the House and the Senate,” she said, suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris would “perform better” against the Republican nominee.
“I think voters felt gaslit being told that Biden is sharp as a tack,” she continued. “I think a young, energetic Democrat running and saying that they’re at the topic of the ticket [will] actually perform better head-to-head.”
Sara Haines, for her part, will be voting for Biden if he’s on the ballot in November — however, she doesn’t believe he can beat Trump “as it stands now.”
“I blame those closest to [Biden] because by this time President Obama had given 570 news conferences and interviews. Trump had given 468. Biden has given 164,” she said. “If they had put him out there earlier, we could’ve either discovered this problem with time on our hands or squelched it immediately. And that’s on their hands.”
Goldberg then noted that Biden has not been in the media as much”because he’s been working” — but Griffin quickly cut her off before she could keep speaking.
“I don’t know that that’s fair to say, though, respectfully,” she chimed in, before adding that even NATO leaders were “worried about his mental state.”

“We’re not saying, ‘Oh, you’re too old to do the job.’ Am I correct?” she asked, to which Griffin replied, “You’re correct. I worry about his ability to beat Trump but I do worry about his ability to serve four years and I think, like Nancy Pelosi did, it’s time to pass the baton to the next generation.”
However, Goldberg said that “the next generation is not quite prepared” to run the country, prompting Griffin to again name Harris as a potential option.
