Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal will be playing at the 2024 Roland Garros and all eyes will be on the most successful player of the tournament. However, with form and fitness not on his side, there are apprehensions about how Nadal will perform at the Grand Slam tournament. To all those doubters, Carlos Moya has sent a warning saying the 37-year-old will play to death.
Moya has said that Nadal won’t hold back anymore and is ready for the five-set matches. The coach also shared a fitness update as he claimed there will not be any issue with the body and Nadal is in the best shape as compared to how he was at other tournaments.
Moya claimed that although Nadal hasn’t played five-setters in almost two years now, he is ready for the challenge at the 2024 Roland Garros.
There will be no holding back now. Rafa will play to the death, at 100 percent, giving his all. We’re in a new situation: five-set matches. He hasn’t done that for two years, but we think he’s ready. There’s no more risk than there was in Brisbane or any other tournament. If something happens to him it’s not for a lack of practice or matches. It will be because of an exertion that his body hasn’t been able to cope with, but we’re confident nothing should happen.
Carlos Moya said about Rafael Nadal’s level ahead of his first match.
Carlos Moya gives a sneak peek into Rafael Nadal’s preparations
Carlos Moya also revealed the reason behind the team being confident about Rafael Nadal‘s level ahead of a crucial first-round match at the 2024 Roland Garros. He revealed that the Spaniard has been practicing for longer hours than he was doing in tournaments before the 2024 French Open.
He also said that playing against tough opponents like Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev has helped the 27-year-old get ready for the challenge that will present itself in a Grand Slam tournament. Moya said that the team has leveled up the preparations.
This time he’s quite a way further back than on other occasions. That’s why he’s practicing longer hours than normal. We’ve had to accelerate his preparations with more time on court. It’s something we don’t like doing, but in the end, we have to adapt to what we think Rafa needs...That has often been the case (against tough opponents). When we’ve come to Roland Garros, he’s practiced against Zverev, Tsitsipas, etc., on the days leading up to his opener.Carlos Moya revealed about Rafael Nadal’s preparations.
Notably, Nadal opens his campaign against Alexander Zverev. It will be a stern challenge for the 14-time French Open champion considering Zverev won a title in Rome. However, despite all the odds, the Spaniard is expected to pull off a heist.
Nadal himself has admitted that it is a tough draw for him. However, he reiterated that he could do nothing about it but be prepared for the challenge. The fans will be expecting the same from the legendary player.
