Can we just focus on the positive for once? Sending positive vibes to Kate Middleton!

After Kate Middleton revealed last month that she has cancer and is undergoing treatment, the Prince and Princess of Wales released a new statement reaffirming their desire for privacy while also expressing how touched they were by the outpouring of love.

The realm of the British Royal Family is accustomed to scrutiny and conjecture, particularly when it pertains to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. A new round of controversy has been created by the couple’s recent official statement wishing the Princess of Wales a speedy recovery following her diagnosis of cancer.

The message, according to critics, subtly targets Prince William’s wife. This has generated discussion regarding the subtleties of Royal correspondence and the ongoing discord within the family.

It is depressing to see that Markle’s kind message to her ailing sister-in-law has drawn unwarranted criticism in a world where empathy and kindness should be valued.

Was Meghan Markle’s Message A ‘Subtle Dig’ At Kate Middleton?

During an interview with Lee Cohen on GB News, television host Nana Akua asserted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s message to Kate Middleton following her cancer diagnosis was a “slight dig”. In a joint statement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wished the Princess of Wales “health and healing for Kate” (via PEOPLE).

Speaking with her guest, Lee Cohen, Akua remarked, “Well, I thought the message was interesting because Harry and Meghan’s message was about offering health and healing.” She felt, though, that there was a slight “dig about the privacy” the couple needed for themselves after that.

Akua asked:

“I just thought I could almost hear Meghan saying unlike the privacy you gave us sort of thing. Do you know what I mean?”

Cohen agreed with Akua and replied:

“Absolutely, it’s so underlines the difference between celebrity and public servant. Truly admired public servants are the working royals versus Meghan and Harry who have become nothing but celebrity influencers. In the United States, most people can’t even make the distinction. So that gives rise to what you’ve just underlined.”

After discovering that Middleton had cancer, Markle contacted her to offer her prayers and best wishes during what must have been a hard time for the Princess of Wales. Despite the gesture of kindness, some have used the opportunity to once again criticize Prince Harry’s wife for allegedly invading Middleton’s privacy.

But is this criticism legitimate, or is it merely mean-spirited sniping at a woman who has long been the target of unfair and often unfounded attacks?

Kate Middleton finally admitted on March 22 that she was receiving cancer treatment, not that she was growing out a bad haircut or experiencing marital issues, as had been widely speculated for weeks. She said that she and her spouse had “taken the time to reassure George, Charlotte, and Louis that I will be OK, and to explain everything to them in a way that is appropriate for them.”

It goes without saying that the Royal family’s lives have been greatly impacted by the recent health scare. The Royal couple and their kids skipped Sunday’s Easter church service alongside King Charles and other royal family members after the Princess of Wales revealed that she was receiving chemotherapy for her cancer (see People).

It is also possible that Middleton purposefully withheld her health announcement until her kids had finished their Easter break from school. The break from school allows the family to spend quality time together and allows the mother of three to concentrate on her complete recuperation. Queen Elizabeth’s former spokesperson, Ailsa Anderson, told PEOPLE recently:

“She has the inner strength, the support of her husband and her extraordinary family, so she can focus on what’s important, which is her getting back to strength.”

While discussions rage, the Princess of Wales’ health and welfare during her cancer battle continue to be the main topics of discussion. Regardless of the purpose behind the Sussexes’ message, the incident highlights the delicate balance between private and public life that still affects the lives of the British Royal Family.
