Naomi Osaka made a flawless entry at the Roland Garros. During her opening match against Lucia Bronzetti, the Japanese managed to secure a hard-fought victory with a final scoreline of 6-1, 4-7, 7-5. However, it seems like she barely has a moment to celebrate the win as her next match is set to be a big challenge. As the draw is desperate to bring her against Iga Swiatek in the next round, she narrated how her ignorance of the table made her a laughing stock in her own team.

Naomi Osaka stepped in for a long conversation after her initial win at the Roland Garros. While she was being asked questions about her daughter and future plans on tour, a journalist came forward to enquire if she was aware of the alarming situation (a possible showdown against Iga Swiatek) that is waiting for her in the next round.

Osaka, being innocent and honest about not having an idea prior to her last match, said, “Honestly, I really didn’t know but then after I was like why does everyone keep asking me about this draw? And then, I knew I was in the top half. I was like. jokingly, well it’s not like I’m playing Iga. And then everyone got quiet. So I was like ‘ohhh.’”

Swiatek is set to start her run for the fourth French Open title with the opening match against Leolia Jeanjean. While the winner of the match is set to face the Japanese in the second round, there’s a high chance that the next showdown will bring both of them face to face. Swiatek’s recent form and overall dominance on clay are enough to scare every other rival on the tour.

Now that she’s even more determined to defend her major clay-court title, it might be a hard time for Osaka. However, besides narrating the story behind her ignorance of the draw, the Japanese also admitted that she sees it as a big challenge.

Naomi Osaka restricts her focus to the upcoming match against Iga Swiatek

Naomi Osaka’s fate at the ongoing clay-court major is set to place her against Iga Swiatek for the third time in her career. While both of them stand with one victory each so far, the Japanese expressed her excitement about facing her once again after almost two long years.

“Yeah, the next round is the only round I know so that’s what I’m gonna focus on now. I’m honestly really excited,” the 26-year-old said, stating that she’s closely viewing the anticipated showdown. The tennis mom also mentioned that she views it as a moment of honor to face the clay court champion on this surface.

“I watched her a lot when I was pregnant and honestly, I think it’s an honor to play her in the French Open. It’s like a very big honor and challenge for me,” the four-time grand slam champion added.

Regardless of how the players view it, it is evident that the fans would be anticipating the upcoming competition. While Iga Swiatek surely has more chances to succeed, you never know what miracles could unfold.
