Despite being absent for most of the clay season, Carlos Alcaraz looks to be gaining momentum on the court. Yet, to lose a set at the French Open, the Spaniard places Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner among clear favorites to win the clay major title.
The ATP’s Top 3 players are yet to win any clay title this season and have participated in fewer matches than most men’s players. Djokovic looks out of form this year, while Sinner and Alcaraz are just returning from injury. Yet, at the big stage of the season, they always know how to rise up to the challenge.
However, the likes of Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Casper Ruud have been placed among the favorites to win the French Open, after claiming one clay title each before heading to Paris. The three players are playing one of the best tennis this season, with Zverev knocking 14-time Roland Garros Champion Rafael Nadal out of the competition in the first round.
I still think that there is a big group of players who can become champion here. It is true that Sinner, Djokovic and I are getting into a rhythm and gaining confidence as the rounds go by. I think it is as if we are becoming more dangerous for the rest. However, anything can happen, there is great equality and the level of the matches that are coming up now, starting with the round of 16, is going to be very high and demanding for everyone.Carlos Alcaraz via tennis365
But, Carlos Alcaraz doesn’t look worried about them as much as he worries about Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic. Yesterday, Sinner continued his fine run at the French Open beating Pavel Kotov in three sets. Alcaraz, also beat Sebastian Korda 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 to seal a spot in the fourth round. Meanwhile, Djokovic is currently playing Italian Lorenzo Musetti now. The Serbian would have to win the title and pray Sinner doesn’t reach the semifinals to remain World No.1.
Carlos Alcaraz happy to play without fear after a forehand injury that made him miss two tournaments
Carlos Alcaraz had missed the Monte Carlo Masters and the Italian Open due to a forehand injury. However, at the Roland Garros, he looks to be enjoying playing without pain in his forehand.
The 21-year-old defeated American J.J Wolf in the first round before beating Jesper De Jong in the second round.

Today was a more demanding match for me. At some point I forget about everything and I hit the forehand normally. I think during the whole match, I hit my forehand really well, with more intensity.Carlos Alcaraz said via tennis365
The Spaniard beat Sebastian Korda in three sets to seal his place in the fourth round. He will play Felix Auger-Aliassime in the next round.
