Justin Timberlake returned to downtown Phoenix on Tuesday, May 21, on a tour in support of “Everything I Thought It Was,” his first release in six years.
And to be clear, he was not shy about supporting that new album when he took the stage at Footprint Center, showcasing 11 of the album’s 18 songs in the course of a two-hour concert that also featured seven songs from “FutureSex/LoveSounds,” a quadruple-platinum triumph from 2006 that remains his most successful solo album.
That left plenty of room in Tuesday’s well-paced show to dust off all the other staples you’d expect to hear from Timberlake in 2024, including all four singles from his triple-platinum solo debut, “Justified,” the biggest hits from “The 20/20 Experience” and his chart-topping hit from the “Trolls” movie, “Can’t Stop the Feeling!,” which featured a snippet of “Good Times” by Chic.
As for the album that preceded “Everything I Thought It Was,” he only did one song from “Man of the Woods.”
And anyone hoping for a little NSYNC in the mix should probably find a more possible dream. He hasn’t done an NSYNC song in metro Phoenix since 2007, when “Gone” made the setlist at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale (now called Desert Diamond Arena).
This tour does feature “FutureSex/LoveSound,” “Let The Groove Get In” and “What Goes Around… Comes Around” for the first time since 2017, though, which is nice.
