Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic might not be able to play at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships as he won’t be fit in time for the Grand Slam tournament. The doctor who performed surgery on the Serbian’s right knee is skeptical about the 37-year-old regaining enough match fitness in the next three weeks so that he can compete at the Championships.
As Djokovic tore the meniscus in his right knee during his fourth-round match at the 2024 Roland Garros against Francisco Cerundolo, the Serbian had to undergo surgery. Now, his surgeon, Antoana Geromete has talked in detail about the extent of Djokovic’s injury and how much time it might take him to recover completely.
Geromete has said that any prediction about the condition of the knee in even one week will be inaccurate because it is a day-to-day process. However, he is certain that 100% recovery in three weeks is something impossible to achieve.
By gradually increasing the load, we will see if it remains 'dry' and without swelling or pain...It will be progress from day to day, but it is impossible to predict the state in which it will be in a week, two and so on. But to be at 100% in three weeks, it really seems difficult to achieve.
While his surgeon is ruling out the possibility of Novak Djokovic returning to 100% fitness in the next three weeks, he also admitted that nothing is impossible with the Serbian’s determination. Antoana Geromete heaped praise on Djokovic’s fighting spirit as he claimed that anyone with an injury like him would have immediately ended up in the emergency room.
He's a real force of nature because given the nature of the injury, what he's done is extraordinary. As many as 99% of people would probably end up immediately in the emergency center with a 'locked' knee. It is a mechanical blockage, and the reality is that only surgery can fix it.Novak Djokovic’s surgeon said about his fighting spirit.
Notably, Djokovic himself has not said anything about which tournament he is targeting for his comeback. However, as his chances for the grass-court swing look dull, and also, switching from clay to grass and back to clay for the Paris Olympics might seem like too much of an ask for someone who is recovering from an injury, the Serbian might have second thoughts.

Most likely, the 37-year-old might give Wimbledon championships a miss and focus on the Olympics which is the biggest goal for Djokovic this season.
