The tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz has won his third Grand Slam title by claiming the French Open on Sunday. The Spaniard defeated Alexander Zverev in five sets, 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, to secure his first Grand Slam in Paris.
However, the way he is progressing, it doesn’t seem like this will be the last time fans will see him lift a Grand Slam trophy. Considering his achievements at the age of 21, he has the records of the Big 3 (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic) in his sights. He was speaking to MARCA and discussed his targets in the future.
I do not remember. I've seen videos, but with some of the highlights, I can't compare them to my age. Like I always said, it doesn't matter what I achieved at 21 if I stagnate here. Ultimately, I want to continue my career and continue to grow to where Djokovic, Rafa and Federer are until recently. The good and the great continued to improve throughout their careers until they reached the age of 37–38 in the prime of their lives.Carlos Alcaraz said
Alcaraz has every right to aspire to match the Big 3’s numbers. Firstly, he has a fantastic team that includes his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, who always keeps him grounded whenever he adds a major accolade to his career. Secondly, the competition he faces today is not as intense as it was during the era of the Big 3.
Who are the next Men’s Tennis Greats?
Although Jannik Sinner has shown immense potential and his rivalry with Alcaraz looks to be the future of tennis, at the moment, it is not on the same level as the great rivalries of the Big 3. Hence, the key for Alcaraz is to first stay healthy and prioritize big tournaments before venturing into Grand Slam events.
How much did Carlos Alcaraz earn from his Roland Garros campaign?
The Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz secured his first French Open title in an epic showdown against Alexander Zverev, lasting four hours and 19 minutes in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Phillipe Chatrier. He surpassed his idol, Rafael Nadal, as the youngest man to achieve a major title on three different surfaces. Nadal achieved this feat at the age of 22 in 2009.

This victory not only solidified Alcaraz’s place in tennis history but also made him the eighth Spaniard to conquer the clay courts of Paris. Additionally, the Spaniard maintained his perfect record in Grand Slam finals, having previously won the 2022 US Open and Wimbledon in the previous year.
In a historic move, the organizers of the second Grand Slam tournament of the year announced a record-breaking prize money pool for the 2024 edition, amounting to €53,478,000, marking a significant 7.82 percent increase from the previous year. Alcaraz received a winner’s purse of €2,400,000, reflecting a 4.35 percent increase compared to Novak Djokovic‘s earnings from the previous year.
Meanwhile, the runner-up, Zverev, took home €1,200,000, which represented a 4.35 percent increase over the previous year’s prize money awarded to Casper Ruud. Significantly, a larger portion of the prize money was allocated to qualifiers, including those eliminated in the opening round, who received €20,000, marking a notable 25 percent increase compared to the previous year’s compensation.
