Amelie Mauresmo, the Roland Garros director, doesn’t think that Novak Djokovic has lost the hunger to achieve more in his career. As he deals with a slump in form this season, the chances of him winning this year’s second Grand Slam event look uncertain.
Djokovic started the year with the hope of including a 25th Grand Slam title in his cabinet, but so far, he has remained trophyless in the four tournaments played. He is in Geneva right now, playing the 250 ATP event to get some practice on clay before arriving in Paris for the Roland Garros.
Recently, during an interview with Australia’s Nick Kyrgios on his Good Trouble podcast, Djokovic talked about his desire to spend some time with his kids away from the world of tennis. Mauresmo expressed her distrust over Djokovic’s current mindset, claiming that the Serb has been in complex situations and dealt with them before as well.
He was very honest when talking about it, and very transparent. But he has incredible mental strength, and we have seen him in very complex situations throughout his career, which he overcame in an extraordinary way. I distrust him.Amelie Mauresmo said on C à vous talk show
The former World No.1 pointed out that Djokovic, like everyone else, has moments when he lacks the motivation and when things don’t work well for him. Mauresmo, however, believes the 37-year-old has the resources that would help him out of the slump.
Not spending enough time with his kids hurts Novak Djokovic
As mentioned before, Novak Djokovic told Nick Kyrgios about the conflict inside of him. A part of him wants to break more tennis records, while another part wants to focus on other important things in his life, like spending quality time with his family.

I really miss my children as we speak now. They are back in Europe, and I haven’t seen them for weeks. If I do well here, I will not see them for another two, or three weeks. Who knows? And that’s hurting me more and more, leaving them.Novak Djokovic said on Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios podcast
Djokovic turned 37 on the day of his Round of 16 match against Yannick Hanfmann , winning with socres of 6-3, 6-3 in the Geneva Open. He will lock horns with either Denis Shapovalov or Tallon Griekspoor in the quarterfinals. Before Geneva, he participated in the Italian Open and lost to Alejandro Tabilo in the third round.
