In the eyes of Alexander ZverevCarlos Alcaraz is a beast. The German was denied his first Grand Slam title by the 21-year-old as he lost to him after a four-hour 19-minute battle with a scoreline of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 in the Roland Garros final.

Alcaraz’s relentless power throughout the match has been lauded by the greats of the game, including six-time Grand Slam singles champion Boris Becker. Becker believes Alcaraz’s level at the young age of 21 is much better than the Big 3- Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.

In my eyes, he’s better at 21 than Nadal, Djokovic, or Federer were at the same age. And then the way he presents himself – you just have to like him.

Boris Becker told Eurosport ‘Matchball Becker’ programme

Alcaraz is the youngest player to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces, the first being the 2022 US Open on hard-court, while the second was his 2023 Wimbledon victory over Djokovic. He surpassed Nadal, who achieved the feat at the age of 22. The win took him to the second spot in the ATP Rankings by surpassing Djokovic, who slipped to third position after withdrawing from the tournament ahead of his quarterfinal clash with Casper Ruud.

Carlos Alcaraz eyes Novak Djokovic’s 24 Grand Slam title record

With three Grand Slam titles, Carlos Alcaraz has a long way to go if he aims to beat Novak Djokovic’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles. When he was asked in the press conference about it, Alcaraz said he doesn’t want to think about that big milestone yet as he wants to enjoy his first Roland Garros victory.

Before facing this final, he [coach Juan Carlos Ferrero] told me, you’re going to fight for your third Grand Slam title, with everything you have been through, and you know the difficult part of winning a Grand Slam, and Djoko has 24.

Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference

The win over Alexander Zverev also made the Spaniard the first player since Rod Laver in 1962 to win a clay-court Grand Slam trophy after beating his opponents in five sets in the semifinal and final. Alcaraz is also the second youngest to win Roland Garros since 2000, with Rafael Nadal being the top one.
