Novak Djokovic’s run at the French Open came to an end after he slipped several times and suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee. The Serbian had to withdraw immediately in a bid to be back soon but former ATP veteran Nicolas Almagro suggested that the injury might end his career like it ended Roger Federer’s time in the sport.

Roger Federer‘s career hit a brick wall in 2020 at 38 when he had to be operated on his right knee twice. The Swiss never got back to his form after that. He later revealed that he was struggling to be fit and 2021 was a horrible experience for him. He was believed to perform big at the Wimbledon championship which he has won eight times but only managed to reach the quarterfinals.

He later admitted that the injury got worse when he played at the Halle Open a few weeks before Wimbledon. He slipped a few times and shockingly lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round of the competition. That was the day he knew he would have to retire soon. Almost the same story could be seen with Djokovic. The Serbian slipped on several occasions while playing Francisco Cerundolo which caused a meniscus tear in his right knee

Specialists have already revealed that it would six weeks to three months for him to come back to the court again. It would be a long time for Djokovic considering his age and poor form this year. That’s why Almagro believes it would be the end of the 37-year-old career.

Top Serbian physiotherapist believes Novak Djokovic will be back in three weeks

Meanwhile, there is hope for Novak Djokovic after a top Serbian physiotherapist Dobrosav Melajac revealed that he could be back in three weeks. The Serbian underwent successful surgery to fix the torn meniscus.

iscus. But then I saw him so well in the last set that I started to doubt. There is no need to be in a hurry, because although this injury seems easy to treat, it is not. Look at Roger Federer, who had a similar injury, that's what finished him off. He had knee surgery, and he eventually retired. It seems simple, but you have to be careful so that things don't get complicated.

However, questions about the true extent of Djokovic’s torn meniscus are yet to be revealed, which may be worse than presumed. But, the Serbian has undergone a successful surgery today.

For Melajac, removing the torn meniscus would hasten the healing process which will see him begin to run in five to seven days.

His meniscus was simply clean. I think he'll be back in three weeks. In five to seven days, he will be able to start running in a straight line.

Djokovic’s injury raised doubts of his Wimbledon participation. If he does get back to the game before the event, then, although he can participate in it, his training might be affected by it.
