Roger Federer is the husband’s goal for many! Fifteen years after their marriage, Federer is still in awe of his wife Mirka’s unconditional support in his life. Why wouldn’t that be? Be it cheering for her husband or appearing for an interview for her husband’s new docuseries, Mirka is a perfect example of what a soulmate looks like. Now in his recent achievement, Federer recalls how Mirka has brought sunshine into his life.
Roger Federer received an honorary Doctorate from Dartmouth College for his philanthropic work. This Swiss former tennis maestro has donated over $100 million through his Roger Federer Foundation, which extensively works for children’s developmental skills, and brings innovative solutions to help out distressed children in need.
While Receiving his Doctor of Humane Letter degree at Dartmouth, Federer couldn’t help but thank his wife Mirka Federer for supporting his dreams. “I feel so very lucky that my incredible wife, Mirka who makes every joy in my life, even brighter, and our four amazing children, Myla, Charlene, Leo, and Lenny are here with me today. And more important, that we are here for each other every day”- said Federer.
The Swiss tennis legend has always been vocal about his wife’s support in his career. During his retirement at the Laver Cup 2022 tour, Federer mentioned how his wife has been meticulously supporting his professional dreams. “She could have stopped me a long, long time ago but she didn’t. She kept me going and allowed me to play, so it’s amazing – thank you,” –said Federer.
In fact, Federer’s coach Paul Annacone once spoke about Mirka’s contribution to the world’s former tennis star’s professional life. “ Mirka doesn’t get enough credit. She’s amazing. She really is someone that understood tennis and understands her husband so well, not only with the tennis but also with who he became as an icon. She’s incredible that she managed all that,”- said Annaconne.
Federer met his wife Mirka in 2000 and nine years after dating, they tied the knot. Parents of identical twins Charlene and Myla with two beautiful boys Leo and Lenny, the Federer family has inspired a generation with their family goals.
While the Swiss former tennis icon won hearts with his applause to his wife, fans couldn’t help but remember how Federer achieved this milestone twice in his life. Yes, this is not the legend’s debut Doctorate degree as he was awarded this prestigious recognition in 2017 too.
Roger Federer received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel in 2017
While Federer received his latest doctorate for his philanthropic work, he was awarded the same recognition by Switzerland’s University of Basel for a similar reason. The Faculty of Medicine awarded Federer an honorary doctorate degree for making Switzerland one of the most reputed countries in the world with his incredible tennis brilliance. The University of Basel also acknowledged the Swiss former ATP star’s contribution as a role model to promote health in his country. At that moment, the university recognized the work of the Roger Federer Foundation’s intense hard work in helping over 850,000 African children.
Federer, who was absent from the ceremony due to some personal reasons, sent a gratitude message in Swiss. While his statements delighted his fans, they were stuck at his one expression where he mentioned how this meant to him just like winning a Grand Slam.
Therefore, Federer receiving his second doctorate surely speaks volumes about his charitable work. However, the way Federer thanked his wife, Mirka, expressed not only their love but also their great bond, which helped Federer to attain success in multiple fields.
