Djokovic Still Favorite For Grand Slams Over Alcaraz & Sinner Says Former Doubles No. 1

Novak Djokovic has the edge over close rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Janik Siner in winning the remaining Grand Slams despite a trophyless 2024.That’s the word of former No. 1 ATP doubles Paul Harhuis, who won six Grand Slam doubles titles in a 15-year playing career. Since Djokovic hasn’t had a great start to the season, several analysts and fans have been quick to ignore his credentials as a tough and resilient player.

But not Harhuis, who believes that the Serb will rule at the Grand Slams, especially at the upcoming Roland Garros and Wimbledon for several reasons.

Djokovic’s closest challengers for the French Open and Wimbledon are expected to be Carlos Alcaraz and Janik Siner, who are all ranked in the top three. Alcaraz famously defeated Djokovic to win Wimbledon and Sinner dethroned Djokovic in Melbourne to win the Australian Open.

In recent months, there has been a clear signal that men’s tennis is experiencing a change of guard. However, Alcaraz and Siner succumbed to injuries ahead of Roland Garros, something Harhuis thinks will hamper both, leaving Djokovic as the favorite in Paris.

In addition, the Dutch Davis Cup captain is backing the experienced Djokovic to succeed at Wimbledon and win a record eighth title. The 36-year-old’s pedigree on grass is unmatched by the current crop of ATP players.

“I think Djokovic is probably the favorite for the Grand Slams and beyond for several reasons. First of all, Sinner has not won the French Open or Wimbledon. He did not show on the grass that he is the main competitor.”

“Secondly, Alcaraz has shown this year that he is struggling physically, so he is not at the level you expect from him, where you can say he is the favorite. It is the only one that has done it so many times in the top. off the list when you pick a favourite, especially for Wimbledon, so he seems to have the upper hand at the moment.

“Of course, we have a few weeks until Wimbledon and if someone wins Roland Garros and then wins Queen’s and goes to Wimbledon with all the conviction and confidence, anything can happen.
