It’s been a tough offseason for Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum, who announced her divorce from New York Giants tight end Darren Waller just a few weeks ago.

The couple had been married for just over a year before calling it quits in April. Before the WNBA season kicks off, Plum addressed the divorce for the first time.

“The offseason has been tough for me,” Plum told Paloma Villicana. “I think everyone knows – it’s pretty public. For me, I’m super grateful. I think my faith has grown tremendously. Not just that, but I know who I am. You kind of get refined by fire.

“I’m excited about this season. I’m excited about Las Vegas trying to run it back again. I know that our fans are with us. I know that this organization is with us.”

Plum officially announced the split in April in a heartbreaking post on social media.

“I’m devastated,” Plum wrote. “I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go. God has given me an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends, One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day. Thank you for the grace to process my pain, to forgive and move forward. Today and everyday I will continue to choose joy. Much love KP.”

Plum and the Aces open the season on May 14 with a bout against the Phoenix Mercury.
