As it seems, Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst isn’t going anywhere. This is after the Bucks brass reportedly denied the Detroit Pistons an opportunity to interview the high-ranking executive for an opportunity to become their new president of basketball operations.

It is worth noting that Horst himself was reportedly interested in the Pistons role. This now begs the question: what’s next for the 41-year-old in Milwaukee?

Milwaukee Bucks News: Pistons Have Moved on From Horst

Apparently, the Bucks were open to making a deal with the Pistons for Horst. According to NBA insiders James L. Edwards III and Shams Charania of The Athletic, however, Milwaukee’s asking price proved too steep for Detroit:

“The Pistons were denied permission to interview Milwaukee’s Jon Horst last week, league and team sources tell The Athletic. It is possible that the Bucks were posturing to get assets from Detroit in order to take Horst, who signed a multi-year deal with Milwaukee in 2021. However, the Pistons have decided to move on to other candidates,” read the report.

As the above report indicates, the Pistons have now decided to end their pursuit of Horst and they will now be looking at other candidates to fill their job vacancy.

Will the Bucks Promote Jon Horst?

Now that the Bucks have denied Horst the opportunity to work in a bigger role with a rival team, it only follows that Milwaukee should make it up to him, right? It’s not that they are contractually obliged to do so, but it would only make sense to keep their professional relationship smooth sailing, so to speak.

According to Bucks reporter Ti Windisch, this turn of events will likely lead to a promotion for Horst in Milwaukee:

“Wouldn’t be surprised if Horst gets promoted to President of Basketball Operations with the Bucks given Detroit wanted to interview him for that job. Seems like the Bucks are in on him, which I have no problem with,” Windisch wrote.

It does not sound like Windisch has any insider information about a seemingly imminent promotion, but this is a logical move on Milwaukee’s part. After all, Horst’s botched promotion also means that he lost out on a significantly higher salary — something that the Bucks have to compensate him for somehow.
