It might seem shocking, but it’s no surprise when Caitlin Clark has her mind on something, she gets it done. Although she couldn’t win the national championship title, she poured her heart and energy into becoming the best of the best players all around. Her college basketball records are standing in competition with the ones made by the pros. Such is her effect on people. While she prepares to debut in her first WNBA season, she has already knocked some bounds, as the League has committed $50 million to provide full-time charter flights for teams over the next 2 years.
In a recent press conference, Caitlin Clark addressed the issues associated with how the pros travel, as they often fly commercially, and that too in the economy section. The League has been under constant pressure to start chartered flights for all the teams due to safety concerns, but it was Clark who nudged them to protect players and prioritize safety. Due to her recent accomplishments, Clark has become a high-profile player and so, the W took a big step in this direction.
Stephen A. Smith accredits Caitlin Clark’s bold move
Caitlin Clark’s prominence in the league is bringing new rays of sunshine. Making things better for everyone around her, Clark’s goodwill has now caught the attention of veteran sports journalist, Stephen A. Smith. Per recent reports, Caitlin Clark talked about the security and time management issues faced by players while they travel on commercial flights.

“That girl went up in her press conference, and said and spoke about flying commercial. They didn’t sit up there and make this decision until after she said that. She did it, she didn’t have to but she did. She got her contract, she getting her bag, she got her endorsement deal but she looked out before she’s even played a regular season game as a professional WNBA player,” said Smith.
And added, “She came in there and she already looked out and added a voice to the plight that these females have had to deal with inexcusably. And the one person that’s got that cache, that marketability that could have been selfish, was selfless and thought not just about herself but everybody. Caitlin Clark deserves love, not just respect, love, for the fact that she spoke out and she gave a voice to the voiceless.”
Indeed, Clark did what the WNBA players have been wanting for so long, but no such arrangements were made for them before her statement. Clark’s statement came after an unpleasant encounter, as she was in transit and was swarmed by so many people. Although she had security the whole time with her, they too had to work up to detangle Clark from the flocking crowd.
This era of players is changing the sport for the better. However, the credit still mostly goes to the dedicated and loyal fans, because of whom all the pieces are finally falling into place.
When the WNBA created a blunder
As the training camp is on, teams are alongside catering to the fans’ enthusiasm via preseason games. However, last week’s matchup between the Chicago Sky and the Minnesota Lynx was left out of the WNBA’s broadcasting schedule, which they credit to an error in their app. A frenzy then hit the fans hard on social media. Just then, a Lynx fan provided others with a Livestream.
As a result, the livestream attracted 100,000 views, with more than 170,000 views in total. By the time the game was about to be concluded, the link had gathered around 200, 000 views. Further, by the next morning, it had more than 1.8 million views.
Then, in the post-game interview, Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve addressed the issue. However, the league faced a strong backlash from fans for stumbling so badly. Later on, the WNBA issued an apology and made the preseason matchup schedule available for the fans to watch.
