The Dallas Mavericks won Game 2 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, 109-108. Dallas now leads the Western Conference Finals series 2-0 with this victory. During the fourth quarter of the game, a heated moment was seen between Mavericks’ star Luka Doncic and Rudy Gobert, KIA NBA Defensive Player of the Year of the current season.

When the Mavericks were only below two points against Minnesota in the fourth quarter, with barely a few seconds remaining, Doncic hit a three-pointer to put his team up 2-0 in the series and send Gobert tumbling. After the 3-pointer, Doncic became too aggressive and trash-talked with the defensive player of the year.
“Motherf*cker! You can’t f*cking guard me.” Doncic said.
Doncic recorded 32 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds in 41 minutes, while Kyrie Irving contributed 20 points, six assists, and four rebounds in 39 minutes.
Gobert Struggled to Defend Doncic
Rudy Gobert had difficulty defending against Doncic in multiple games. Doncic displayed a dominant performance throughout the season, averaging 28.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 9.3 assists in 14 games during the 2024 playoffs. In the regular season, Luka Doncic averaged 33.9 points, 9.8 assists, and 9.2 rebounds in 70 games.
Recently, Head coach Jason Kidd has mentioned that Luka Doncic is undoubtedly one of the best players in the NBA. During a press conference after the Mavericks advanced to the conference finals, Kidd praised Doncic and said he is one of the best players in the world.
During a press conference after game 2, Doncic was asked about the incident between him and Gobert. In response, Doncic said that he didn’t engage in trash talk. He was saying something in Slovenian.
On Monday, Doncic will return to action in game three against Minnesota at the American Airlines Center.
