Klay Thompson’s List Of 4 Teams He Would Leave Warriors For

Klay Thompson is an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Golden State Warriors had the opportunity to lock him up long-term and ultimately decided not to.

While a return to The Bay is obviously possible for Thompson given the history involved between him and the Warriors, four teams were recently mentioned as legitimate suitors for his services.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Thompson’s biggest priority right now isn’t simply getting paid. If it was, there are multiple bottom-dwelling teams in the league he could go to.

He still wants to contend for a championship.

“Thompson wants to win,” Slater wrote.

“Don’t expect him to chase the largest possible offer from the Detroit Pistons or Charlotte Hornets, even if that’s the correct financial or leverage move. But there are plenty of cap-space teams with a clearer upward path to contention than the Warriors. That includes the Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic.”

Over the past year Thompson has also closely been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Last month, Brian Windhorst of ESPN offered his take on where he expects Thompson to end up when everything is said and done.

“I think they like the way this team finished the season — 27-12 down the stretch, top-10 offense, top-10 defense,” Windhorst said.

“They’re a quality team. … I think they bring Klay Thompson back. I think they like the way this team played at the end of the season.”

Time will tell if Windhorst’s prediction ultimately proves to be correct.

What uniform will Thompson be in when next season tips off? An answer one way or the other is coming soon enough.
