WNBA rookie Angel Reese came into the pros as an established star. Reese believes there’s always been a target on her back, given her stardom outside of the basketball court, but she’s been quick to say, “This is what I wanted.”
Reese is a Class-A competitor. She thrives when the lights get brighter and the stage gets bigger. The Chicago Sky forward has been a bright spot as a starter for the team, averaging 10.9 points and 9.0 rebounds.
She recently spoke on her introduction to the league. The WNBA has been known as a more fast-paced, physical league compared to NCAA women’s basketball, so it has the ability to force rookie growing pains.

“Everything I’ve faced so far has been expected. I knew this was a super competitive league; nothing was going to be easy for me. Especially one going in as a rookie, two who I am. Of course, people are going to go even harder. But, this is what I wanted,” said Reese, per Kareem Copeland on X.
Reese has faced a couple of league superstars, but she’s held her own. When facing two-time MVP Breanna Stwera, Reese posted 13 points and 10 rebounds. She also played shifty guards like Arike Ogunbowale, having 12 points and eight rebounds in her league debut.
The Sky will look to get back in the win column on Thursday against the Washington Mystics, which will be a homecoming for Reese in the DMV.
