Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark will take the floor as teammates for the first time at the WNBA All-Star Game, but Reese is certain it won’t be the last time.
The Sky rookie is not only excited to play alongside Clark but set high expectations for herself and her fellow Rookie of the Year contender by teasing a potential Olympic run for the pair in 2028.
“We’re gonna be playing together for a while so this is not gonna be the [last] time. I know we’ll be All-Stars again, and hopefully 2028 we’ll be Olympians together,” Reese told ESPN on Wednesday.
Reese explained that she’s looking forward to the All-Star Game environment that she and Clark have helped create.
“I know so many fans are gonna come out to watch both of us. I know a lot of people are just gonna be able to come to Phoenix, I’m sure it’s already sold out,” Reese said.
Matchups between Reese and Clark have become must-watch in the WNBA, which is no surprise to anyone who saw the competitive fire each player had whenever they faced off at the college level.
Despite a thriving rivalry on the court — and even some eyebrow-raising comments made by Reese off of it — the relationship between the two young stars has stayed friendly.
“Me and Caitlin, we’ve been cool, we’ve never had any issues,” Reese told reporters in October.
Plenty has happened since then, from an intense Elite Eight matchup to three tight battles between the Sky and Fever, but the relationship between Reese and Clark remains one of mutual admiration.
Clark similarly shared her excitement at the thought of playing alongside Reese when asked about the possibility in June, telling reporters it would be “a lot of fun.”
“She’s had a tremendous season, and if that was to happen, I’m sure people would love it,” Clark said.
As long as fan voting has any place in the process, Clark and Reese will likely share the floor at future WNBA All-Star Games. Will it always be as teammates? There was no doubt this year, as the WNBA All-Stars are facing the USA Olympic women’s basketball team in a unique format, but the last two All-Star Games featured team captains and a draft. Clark and Reese wouldn’t be guaranteed teammates under that format if it sticks around.
Much like the Team USA duo of LeBron James and Stephen Curry is already thrilling basketball fans, the idea of Clark and Reese taking the floor as teammates is sure to be one of the highlights of WNBA All-Star weekend.
