Chaka Khan took to social media over the weekend and issued an apology for her harsh criticisms and shade towards other female artists like Mary J. Blige, Adele, and Mariah Carey.
The legendary diva appeared on “The Originals with Andrew Goldman,” where they discussed Rolling Stone’s “200 Greatest Singers of All Time” list.
Chaka came in at No. 29 on the list and she wasn’t thrilled about it.
She told Andrew, “I didn’t even know what the hell you were talking about, so obviously this don’t mean a great deal to me. These people don’t quantify or validate me in any way.”
When Andrew Goldman asked her opinion on the singers who were listed ahead of her, the “Tell Me Something Good” singer went in!
Chaka didn’t hold back when she talked about how Mary J. Blige “f**ked up” her cover of “Sweet Thing.”
I didn’t say that out in public, I might have said it to her.
But, I told Mary J. Blige she f**ked it up!
Number one, her vocals were flat. And I told her, I asked her…I said, ‘What time of day was it…or night… what were you doing when you decided to cover Sweet Thing? Where were you at when you covered it?’
Mary J. explained that she had recorded the song at eight in the morning.
Chaka Khan continued:
I said, ‘Girl, you don’t sing nothing at eight o’clock in the motherf**king morning. Especially, if you have to get up to sing it. If you had been up all night smoking cracking or something – I don’t know – it might have been a whole different thing.
When Andrew said Mariah Carey landed at No. 5, Chaka Khan responded, “That must be payola or some s**t like that.”
She simply said, “OK, I quit,” when she learned Adele came in at no. 22.

Chaka Khan made headlines for her raw and uncut criticism of the artists who love and revere her.
She released the following apology via her Instagram page on Sunday:
Recently, I was asked about a list of the ‘greatest singers of all time’ and instead of questioning the need for such a list, I was pitted against other artists and I took the bait.
As artists, we are unfairly put into ‘boxes’, ‘categories’ or on ‘lists.’ Being an artist or musician is not a competition. It’s a gift, for which I am truly grateful.
It was not my intention to cause pain or upset anyone. To anyone that felt this way, I sincerely apologize.
Thank you for all the love everyone has shown me, unconditionally. I have always been about empowering others and I started a foundation for that very purpose. I will be announcing soon.
Empowering all artists is most important because we truly are the architects of change…and change begins within the heart. I love you all and God bless – Chaka
