Even though he didn’t get to do much for the Milwaukee Bucks this season, veteran guard Malik Beasley remains a reliable scorer when the need calls for it. However, the franchise may lose him as the Houston Rockets are planning to sign the shooting guard in free agency.

Beasley first entered the NBA as the Denver Nuggets’ 19th overall pick in the 2016 Draft. He would go on to play for the franchise until they traded him to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020. By that point, he had established himself as one of the league’s rising backup shooting guards who can provide instant offense for any team.

After several seasons playing for the Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, and Los Angeles Lakers, Beasley was signed by Milwaukee during the previous offseason. The wisdom of this move was to provide more shooting and spacing around the duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, making them more effective in their respective roles.

Over the course of 79 games, 77 of which he started for Milwaukee, Beasley averaged 11.3 points on 41 percent shooting from deep, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per contest. Unfortunately, key injuries to Antetokounmpo and Lillard prevent the Bucks from going far into the playoffs.

Even though the Rockets failed to make the postseason, they showed movement towards the right direction when it comes to their development. A move they’re considering is signing Beasley in the coming months, as written by Timothy Rapp for Bleacher Report.

“According to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, “Houston has identified floor spacing and shooting as an area of need this offseason privately and publicly and have an interest in veteran sharpshooter Beasley, league sources said,” Rapp wrote.

“He’s emerged as one of the league’s more reliable options from beyond the arc, hitting on 38.5 percent of his threes during his career. That should make him a popular option for teams looking to add floor-spacing in free agency,” he added.

Milwaukee’s front office signed Beasley to a one-year $2 million deal last year. There’s no indication yet how the Bucks will respond to Houston’s pursuit or if they plan to keep the shooting guard in their lineup.

Free agency is set to begin soon after the NBA Finals. By that time, it’ll be determined if Milwaukee signs Beasley back or Houston makes the move on him.
