Several Indiana Fever fans are not happy with Christie Sides’ decision regarding Caitlin Clark during their Wednesday showdown against the Dallas Wings.

Fans Make Significant Caitlin Clark Demand After WNBA's New Decision - Athlon Sports

Clark made history during the game after finishing with 24 points and 19 assists in the painful 101-93 loss. She now owns the WNBA’s single-game record for most dimes, surpassing Courtney Vandersloot’s 18 from 2020.

The record and the loss aside, however, fans couldn’t help but criticize Sides’ decision to play Clark the entire 40 minutes of the game.

Considering that the All-Star guard has been playing basketball non-stop over the past few months–from leading Iowa to the national championship game to getting drafted just a week later–many supporters argued that the Fever head coach could have managed her minutes better.

“Also no player should be playing full 40 let alone a rookie,” a critic shared.

A social media user agreed and responded, “Let’s talk about this: Caitlin playing full 40 minutes and looking visibly tired the last minutes of the game, this isn’t normal for a player, let alone someone who just started in the w.”

Another commenter was simply in disbelief over the decision, “How is a rookie playing 40 mins lmao Caitlin fr the reason why this team is good and Aliyah.”

Other fans called out the Fever as well, with one fan saying: “Clark played 40 minutes. Build a better roster, Indiana”

“Caitlin Clark played all 40 minutes tonight,” a shocked fan stated.

A Caitlin Clark supporter also chimed in to defend her lack of aggressiveness on offense towards the end of the game, saying: “She played 40 mins. It’s obvious her legs were gone, so she couldn’t get shots up.”

Perhaps Sides was thinking that Clark and the Fever would get plenty of rest anyway with the WNBA break starting soon. Nevertheless, it clearly created a negative perception of the head coach since it seemed she was overworking the team’s best player.
