Kelly Clarkson responds to idea of joining judges panel on American Idol

Kelly Clarkson reacted to the idea of replacing long-time judge Katy Perry on American Idol after previously finding her start in the music industry on the hit singing series

As American Idol fans anxiously anticipate long-time judge Katy Perry’s replacement on the singing series, many fans have rallied for former star Kelly Clarkson to step in.

This season Katy announced that she will be stepping away from the judges panel to pursue other aspirations after a six-year-long run on the singing competition. And as the beloved pop star is on her way out, fans are eager to see who will fill her shoes. And while there are many viable singers on the radar, many are hoping that Kelly will be the one to take on the job.

And while the famous talk show host and former American Idol contestant was flattered to be considered for the position, she has already respectfully declined. During the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, the Because of You hitmaker said: “I can’t do that, only because I promised my kids. I was like, ‘I wanna be there as much as I possibly can.”

Kelly is currently a mom-of-two including her nine-year-old daughter River Rose and seven-year-old son Remington “Remy” Alexander. She is co-parenting her two kids with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. The former couple split after seven years of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the breakdown of their love.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she went on to explain: “I wanted a life for us. And we enjoy the park every day, and we enjoy each other,” and added: “As a parent — people get this — you only get so much time until they don’t want to hang out with you. That’s the reason [I can’t do Idol]. It’s my kiddos.”
