On August 1, the day before the competition, the athlete born in 1993 received news that his wife was about to give birth. Quinion asked the French Athletics Federation for permission to return home and be with his wife when the baby was born.

Quinion was at his wife’s bedside at 2am Paris time when she gave birth to their daughter Charlie. The athlete spent about 30 minutes almost falling asleep before getting in a taxi and heading to the Olympic race.

Returning to the 20km race walk, Aurelien Quinion, although not winning a medal, broke his personal record with a time of 1 hour 19 minutes 56 and finished 9th. Immediately after finishing, he celebrated his achievement by putting his thumb to his mouth as if to show off to the world his newborn daughter.

“Everything is going well, the baby is beautiful, with beautiful eyes. The mother is very healthy. That’s the most important thing. I couldn’t be happier, it’s complete happiness,” Quinion shared.
