The mystery behind the 1,600 billion VND jewelry that the late Queen Elizabeth called by the funny name “french fries”

Queen Elizabeth II once used the simple phrase “Her French Fries” to refer to one of the world’s most precious jewels. However, after her death, the current owner of this treasure remains a mystery.

Few would have guessed that the everyday phrase “Granny’s Chips” was used by the late Queen Elizabeth II to refer to one of her favorite pieces of jewelry: a magnificent diamond brooch that is said to be the most valuable in the world. This special piece of jewelry was worn by her on her Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Passed down from generation to generation in the British royal family, this jewelry, which is associated with two diamonds, Cullinan III and Cullinan IV, is valued at more than 50 million pounds (equivalent to 1,600 billion VND).

Queen Elizabeth II received the diamond brooch from her grandmother, Queen Mary. During her 70-year reign, she only wore it on special occasions. It is known that Queen Mary wore the diamond brooch at her coronation in 1911 and then passed it on to Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, before her coronation at the age of 27.

Queen Elizabeth II received the “Granny’s Chips” brooch from her grandmother, Queen Mary.

The phrase “Grandma’s chips” used by Queen Elizabeth II not only shows her affection for her grandmother but also exudes a very British wit as those gems are only a small part cut from the original Cullinan diamond. The two Cullinan III and Cullinan IV diamonds used to create this famous brooch have a total weight of 158 carats.

Meanwhile, the original rough Cullinan diamond was the largest ever, weighing up to 3,106 carats (equivalent to 621.35 grams). Scientists estimate that these diamonds were formed more than a billion years ago at a depth of 400-650 km underground, before the appearance of humans.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, many members of the Royal Family, including Duchess Kate and Meghan Markle, were seen wearing pieces from her collection at her funeral. However, the diamond brooch “Her Fries” was not seen. Since royal wills are private, the public can only hope that these precious pieces will remain in the family and be used by future generations as a way to remember the late Queen.
