Internet sleuths claim Jaylen Brown trashed Bronny James to WNBA stars, Celtics star responds

Jaylen Brown was courtside for the Boston Celtics’ matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers Monday night. He ended up making headlines for something internet lip-readers think he said about Bronny James, the son (and now teammate) of LeBron James.

Videos going viral on social media showed the Celtics star sitting alongside the WNBA’s Angel Reese and Kysre Gondrezick, who Brown is reportedly dating. In them, Brown can be seen turning to Gondrezick and saying something.

Lip-readers online claimed Brown said, “I don’t think Bronny is a pro,” a comment that would add further fuel to the criticism Bronny James has faced since being drafted. Critics have claimed the younger James is not NBA-ready and was drafted due to nepotism.

Early Tuesday morning, Brown responded to one of those videos.

“It’s a flex to have your son alongside you in the NBA it reflects greatness and longevity,” Brown wrote. “Bronny has all the tools around him to be successful I look forward to watching his growth.”

The original video made major waves Monday night. As of Tuesday morning, the clip that Brown responded to generated 7.4 million views by itself. That’s not even counting other accounts that have shared the same video, generating millions of views as well.

Gondrezick and Reese were teammates on the Chicago Sky until recently. Gondrezick was waived by the team at the end of June. Meanwhile, Reese is one of the league’s top young stars, making a major splash in Chicago as a rookie. It appears that Reese was in town with her team, who are set to play the Las Vegas Aces Monday night.

Brown has been generating headlines while in Las Vegas this week. The Celtics wing acknowledged that he thinks he was snubbed from Team USA and believes that Nike played a part in him not participating the Paris Olympics.
