The controversy that transpired between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese in the 2023 National Championship game is still afresh in the minds of fans. Reese taunting Clark with the You Can’t See Me gesture grabbed all the headlines despite LSU’s historic win. Perhaps this is the reason why the ESPN docuseries, Full Court Press, has shone some light on the incident. However, the 2× USBWA National Player of the Year didn’t seem very pleased about the fact it gained so much traction.
Caitlin Clark opened up about the incident when Episodes 1 and 2 premiered at noon on CT Saturday. She said, “That’s the only thing people wanted to talk about. When we just went on this like magical run and united so many people. That, like, was frustrating to me.”
The drama unfolded between the two in the final moments of the 2023 NCAA Final. Reese felt that Caitlin had disrespected Louisville Cardinals when she waved her palm in front of her face in an earlier game. Following this, the then ferocious LSU No.10 responded with a similar “You Can’t See Me” gesture seconds before the game’s conclusion. In addition to this, Reese also blatantly lets her adversary know that she will be wearing a championship ring soon by tapping her ring finger.
These antics were able to overshadow LSU’s first-ever NCAA title as Reese faced a lot of backlash for her actions. However, Caitlin decided to come in support of the 6 ft 3 in forward just two days after the game. In an interview with ESPN, she said, “I don’t think Angel should be criticized at all. No matter which way it goes, she should never be criticized for what she did. I’m just one that competes, and she competed. I think everybody knew there was going to be a little trash talk. It’s not just me and Angel.”
The two of them seem to have buried the hatchet and have been nothing but supportive of each other since then.
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese celebrating each other
There have been countless instances where these two have shown public affection for each other’s success. Soon after Clark became the all-time leading scorer by breaking Kelsey Plum’s NCAA record, the Bayou Barbie was among the first to extend a congratulatory gesture on X. She wrote, “Congratulations @CaitlinClark22. KEEP BREAKING RECORDS & MAKING HER-STORY!”
Similarly, the 6 ft guard also reflected on her amicable relationship with Reese ahead of their Elite Eight clash. She told ESPN, “There’s definitely that competitive fire. We both grew up loving this game, and we’re going to do anything we can to help our teams win.”
Both of them have now taken their camaraderie to the professional world. As much as fans would love to have a face-off between the two, they wouldn’t mind them sharing a sweet moment together. Undeniably, it will be a treat to watch for everyone.
