Boston Celtics star wing Jaylen Brown recently weighed in on Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s WNBA Rookie of the Year battle. While Clark remains favored to win the award, Reese has the edge in Brown’s eyes due to her night-to-night “consistency.”

Clark and Reese are each having historic rookie campaigns, getting named All-Stars and gaining considerable separation from their peers in the ROTY race. Entering the WNBA’s Olympic break, which began on July 21, Clark’s ROTY odds were -2000, while Reese’s were +800. Meanwhile, no other rookie was in the same vicinity.

Clark has captivated fans with her shooting and playmaking, achieving numerous milestones, including the WNBA’s single-game assist record (19). Meanwhile, Reese has been a nightly double-double threat, setting the league’s consecutive double-double record (15 games).

During a Wednesday Boardroom interview, Brown was asked if he “has his eye on someone that could be ROTY.” The reigning NBA Finals MVP didn’t hesitate to name Reese.

“Angel Reese [has] got my vote,” Brown said. “I just think, you know, consistency, to come in and just [get] double-double after double-double, that’s impressive. There’s a lot of good players, a lot of good guys out there that are doing their thing.”

Brown may be somewhat biased toward Reese, as he is dating her former Sky teammate Kysre Gondrezick. Last month, the trio was spotted at a Las Vegas NBA Summer League game, suggesting Brown and Reese may be friends.

Nevertheless, most would probably agree that Clark and Reese each have compelling ROTY cases.

Through 26 games, Clark is averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.7 3-pointers per game, shooting 40.5%.

Meanwhile, Reese is averaging 13.5 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 1.8 apg and 1.4 spg, shooting 40.2% through 24 games.

Jaylen Brown plans to attend WNBA games post-Olympic break

After lauding Angel Reese in his Boardroom interview, Jaylen Brown highlighted his WNBA fandom. He added that he plans to attend games when the league returns to action.

“Shoutout to the WNBA. I’m a fan,” Brown said. “I plan on coming to some games when their schedule picks back up after the Olympics.”

The WNBA’s Olympic break concludes on Aug. 14., with play resuming on Aug. 15. Each team has 14 to 16 games remaining before the playoffs kick off on Sept. 22.
