Princess Kate “wants to fill the earth” because of her father’s funny mistake at Wimbledon

The Middleton family and the British Royal Family are both familiar faces at Wimbledon. However, during an appearance here, Princess Kate was made by her own biological father, Mr. Michael Middleton, to “want to fill the earth”.

As avid tennis fans, Mr. and Mrs. Carole and Michael Middleton – Princess Kate’s parents – were spotted at Wimbledon this year. In the past, Princess Kate also often came with her family to watch matches. Her sister Pippa and her brother James have also appeared on several occasions in the seating area reserved for the British Royal Family. However, in the documentary Our Wimbledon hosted by Sue Barker broadcast on the BBC in 2017, Princess Kate once revealed a bad situation that made her “want to fill the ground”.

The incident occurred when her father and son passed by former British professional tennis player Tim Henman, right after watching the match of Pete Sampras – former American world No. 1. Princess Kate recalled: “My dad definitely wouldn’t like this, but when we walked past Tim Henman, he calmly said, ‘Hello Pete.’ I was embarrassed to want to fill the earth!” While Tim Henman has never won Wimbledon, Pete Sampras is the owner of 7 titles to win this tournament.

Holding the role of patron of the Tennis Club and Croquet All England (AELTC) since 2016, Princess Kate often appears at Wimbledon to present trophies to winning male and female athletes. However, this year, her appearance has not been confirmed due to being in the process of cancer treatment. However, Princess Kate still participated in the Trooping the Colour event – The official birthday celebration of the British monarch.

AELTC President, Ms. Debbie Jevans said that the organizers are still “flexible” in arranging a backup trophy giver, and affirmed that Princess Kate’s ability to attend has not been ruled out. Ms Jevans told Telegraph Sport: “We hope the Princess of Wales, as the patron of the Club, will be able to hand over the trophy. However, her health and recovery are a top priority.”

She added: “We can’t be sure of anything yet. All that can be said is that we will provide maximum support and create the most flexible conditions possible for Wang Fei I am not sure who will be the replacement if Wang Fei is unable to attend. That’s something we’ll consider as the event approaches. At the moment, we are still very flexible. When we have official information, we will make an appropriate decision.”

It can be seen that Wimbledon is an annual event for the whole Princess Kate family. In 2023, she brought Prince George and Princess Charlotte to watch the final. Meanwhile, Prince Louis – the youngest son of Princess Kate and Prince William – still has to stay at home.
