The Milwaukee Bucks‘ 2023-24 season ended all too early with yet another first round loss. Whereas they were sent home early last year by the Miami Heat, this year they were defeated in the opening round of the NBA Playoffs by the Indiana Pacers. In both instances, Milwaukee was without one of their best players.
Last year, Khris Middleton was out with a knee injury. This year, Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the entire series with a soleus strain that, had the Bucks been able to advance, would have kept him out for a few more weeks. Point guard Damian Lillard was also limited by an Achilles injury.
As is the case every offseason, national NBA analysts have begun the hypothetical Giannis trade scenarios despite the fact the two-time MVP has repeatedly stated his desire is to remain in Milwaukee for the entirety of his career.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Does Not Want to Leave the Milwaukee Bucks

Ever since Giannis rose to superstardom in 2016, when he won the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award and made his first All-Star team while averaging 22.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game, there has been external pressure on him to leave small market Milwaukee.
Giannis, however, has since three different nine-figure contracts to remain with the Bucks. In that time, he has made a total of eight All-Star teams, won two NBA MVP Awards, a Defensive Player of the Year Award, and set numerous franchise and league records.
Despite his constant recommitment to Milwaukee, though, national media members push an agenda of “Well, what if?” Even after the Bucks won the NBA Championship in 2021, there were narratives being pushed that he could “maybe” want out of Milwaukee if he wanted to win another one.
Just last year, though, Giannis had the following to say about his future:
“I wear my heart on my sleeve and I really appreciate people that gave my an opportunity to change my life, my parents’ life, my kids’ life. I don’t that that for granted, I don’t take that lightly.
“The first time I was able to leave and be a free agent and join another team, I chose to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks because they helped me, they guided my through all the processes when I was an 18-year-old.
“I will always have that in my mind and in my heart and as long as I’m healthy and as long as they want me to be a part of the Milwaukee Bucks Organization, I would love to stay there.
So, it is clear: Giannis is not leaving.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Still Pops Up in Milwaukee Bucks Trade Rumors

Despite his insistence that he wants to remain in Milwaukee, the annual offseason trade speculation is already underway. Since the Bucks would be foolish to trade Giannis on their own, this speculation is based on the notion that the Greek Freak would request the trade himself.
In a recent article that suggests the best possible trade packages for Giannis from every NBA team, Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World suggests the following trade for the two-time MVP from the Boston Celtics:
Trade Offer For Giannis Antetokounmpo: Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, 2025 First-Round Pick, 2026 First-Round Pick
“In this proposed trade, the Celtics are relinquishing the talents of Jaylen Brown, a rising star with two-way prowess, and veteran presence Al Horford, alongside two valuable first-round picks in 2025 and 2026. The allure of pairing Antetokounmpo with Jayson Tatum creates a formidable duo, arguably the most potent in the modern era. Imagine the sheer dominance of these two versatile forwards, capable of scoring from anywhere on the court while wreaking havoc on defense.
“But the Celtics have more than this duo; they have a roster including Kristaps Porzingis, a skilled big man who adds another dimension to their frontcourt, and Jrue Holiday, a defensive stalwart and playmaker extraordinaire. With this powerhouse lineup, the Celtics would undoubtedly emerge as the team to beat in the Eastern Conference, boasting a lethal combination of offensive firepower and defensive tenacity.”
Obviously, this trade is not a realistic scenario for a plethora of reasons.
Reasons Why a Milwaukee Bucks Trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics Would Never Happen

First, this is not the Bucks of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. They are committed to keeping their championship window open and holding onto their stars. That especially means keeping Giannis and surrounding him with the best role players possible.
Secondly, there is no way Milwaukee would trade their best player to one of their biggest competitors and rivals in the Eastern Conference. For the last few seasons, both the Celtics and Bucks have been preseason favorites to come out of the East. It is simply asinine to think that Milwaukee would help out Boston in this manner.
Third, while the two first round picks are nice, the players received in return are not enough to make up for the loss of Giannis. Horford is aging and pairing him with Brook Lopez in the front court would be a defensive disaster. Brown is 27 and a three-time All-Star, but is nowhere near the star that Giannis is.
In summary, this trade would be a disaster for Milwaukee and it simply is not realistic, like all the trades on the list are.
