Iga Swiatek is the No.1 player on the WTA Tour thanks to the trophies she has been adding to her cabinet. The 23-year-old has garnered massive praise from fans and greats of the game because of her four French Open titles.

Her recent success at Roland Garros for the fourth time has made the tennis fraternity compare her achievements to her idol Rafael Nadal already, although she has a long way to go. In the Roland Garros final, Swiatek eased past Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1 to lift her third consecutive title in Paris.

Recently, Marina Bassols, who injured herself last year in the WTA 125K in La Bisbal, spoke highly of Swiatek ahead of competing in the BBVA Open Internacional in Valencia, where she will try to win to make it to the top 100 again. The 24-year-old Spaniard explained the reason that made Swiatek one of the most formidable players on the WTA Tour.

Who are the next Men’s Tennis Greats?

If we say about Paolini that she had electric legs, what about Swiatek is already at another level. I was amazed when I played against her in the United Cup. What an incredible amount of play and intensity! She has it all. I watched all of her training, her speed is incredible, although the best thing is her mentality. I pay attention to her a lot. She is No. 1. I love her.

Marina Bassols told Punto de Break

The current World No. 109 added that Swiatek makes mistakes but doesn’t forget to learn from them. Apart from the United Cup, Bassols has not yet met the Pole in any other tournaments.

Rick Macci compares Iga Swiatek’s Roland Garros triumph to Rafael Nadal

In Saturday’s Roland Garros final, Iga Swiatek did not let Jasmine Paolini control the match even for a while. It took the Pole just 68 minutes to emerge victorious, as a result of which, many fans called the final “boring“.

Swiatek’s complete dominance, however, was praised by the fans and pundits, including Serena Williams‘ former coach Rick Macci, who compared the 23-year-old’s achievements to those of Rafael Nadal.

Her mindset is like Rafa. Her wicked spin angles are like Rafa. And her trophy collection at Roland Garros is trending like Rafa. @igaswiatek.

Swiatek, however, doesn’t compare herself with Nadal yet because, in her eyes, the 14-time Roland Garros champion is “above everyone“. She said she will see in 14 years whether she’s able to follow in her idol’s footsteps or not.
