A rollercoaster of a ride came to an end as the Indiana Fever lost their fourth consecutive game to the Connecticut Sun. However, the night filled with thrill and hope also had a scary injury. Caitlin Clark dropped to the floor in the middle of the first half, holding her left leg, sending the fans into a loop of worries. While she did return to the floor soon after, she wasn’t at her best. Ruining the potential win due to the twisted ankle, what does the rookie have to say?
Talking to the Indiana media, Caitlin Clark shared her thoughts about twisting her ankle and her injury status. Laughing, she said, “But yeah, I mean, ankle injuries, every basketball player’s had an ankle injury. If not, you’re not a true baller, I guess. It’ll be a little stiff, but I’ll be good.” Talking about how it happened, she added, “I turned it pretty good.”
One of the replays also showed how the first overall pick was wrapping a lot of tape. Commenting on it, she said, “I just wanted to get a lot more tape on it as fast as I could to get back out there and play. It’s hard, especially when I started the game off good. Then you get hurt and you got to sit out the last five minutes of the first half, got to wait halftime. Kind of hard to get into a flow there. I think it kind of took me till the end of the third quarter to get back into the flow.”
In the middle of the second half, Caitlin Clark twisted her not “the best ankles in the world.” Consequently, she fell on the Sun guard, Brionna James. Although she also mentioned that her ankles were just a little tight that morning. However, that was nothing out of the ordinary.
Breaking down tonight’s performance by Caitlin Clark
Certainly, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer is slowly but surely getting back to her college level of play. Knuckling down on the visitors, Caitlin Clark started the game quite well. She grabbed 8 points in the first 10 minutes of play. While she wished to do the same in the next half too, her ankle injury did not allow her. She left the floor with just 5 minutes left on the clock.
When she returned to the floor, the rookie followed exactly what her coach told the team, “Make it the best half you have so far.” Within seconds, Caitlin Clark followed the game plan and made an assist through Aliyah Edwards before the Sun’s timeout. Although she again needed a minute to breathe, she returned to make 2 points before the last 10 minutes of the game.
The rookie returned to the floor, but foul trouble followed her. She consecutively grabbed 3 personal fouls, totaling 5 for the game. She even dropped a Logo 3 within 3 minutes of the last quarter. Ending the game with 17 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds, Clark sure did a good job alongside her teammates.
Despite a comparatively good performance, the night did not end in the Fever’s favor. Will the squad be able to improve further in just 48 hours as they lock horns with the LA Sparks next? Caitlin Clark will meet her fellow Naismith awardee Cameron Brink and hope to get the better of her and the Sparks for a win.
